Parent Groups

There are three main groups assisting the school:

PARENTS AND FRIENDS ASSOCIATION (P&F)
An Executive Committee is elected at the Annual General Meeting each February. Meetings are held once a month. Fund raising is kept to a minimum in lieu of which the P&F requests a fee from each family.

LADIES AUXILIARY
The main role of the Ladies Auxiliary is to support the school by catering for social functions and to assist the P&F in its fund raising activites. At the same time, is creates an environment where mothers come together to meet socially and participate in the school community.

MEN OF IONA
The Men of Iona is officially a sub-committee of the Iona Parents & Friends Association.  The group commits itself to two goals – ‘social’ and ‘service’.  The group is open to all dads from both the College and Primary School.

From a social point of view we meet at the Albion Hotel, Stirling Hwy Cottesloe between 7-8pm on the first Thursday night of each month for a social drink. This will be purely a social night to meet other parents from Iona over a social drink. You don’t have to make it every month, just as often as you can and for as long as you would like.

We also meet once a term doing activities such as bare foot lawn bowls at the Mosman Park Bowling Club, Ten Pin Bowling and Golf. The “Bragging Rights” trophy, which is a scale model Komatsu “Haul Pak” truck with engraved plaque, is keenly contested between the College and Primary dads. The winning school then displays the trophy in the reception area.

During 2007, dads were involved in ‘Dads on canteen’ duties which were hugely successful and were great fun to be involved in.  Look out for more dates this year.

From a Service point of view we help out with school events such as the Sundowner, The Quiz Night, The Girls Social Dances and Concerts.

Whilst we ask for help in supporting the P&F and the schools during the year, I estimate that the total would be about 2 hours over the whole year, which I do not consider to be too onerous for us to be involved in our children’s education.  You need only be involved as much or as little as you can spare, and the rewards are lasting friendships and experiences. Regular updates on MOI activities and events are placed in the Ionian and the Primary School Newsletter, so keep an eye out for these.  If you are interested in joining our email list, please email this link menofiona@iona.wa.edu.au
